Reasons why not to use a refillable humidification device

1. All refillable devices are one-way humidifiers
Regardless of their claims, ALL refillable devices are one-way humidifiers, giving off moisture whether your humidor needs it or not. Some companies may claim that their device will hold your humidor at 70%, but their claims are completely dependent on outside factors. All refillable devices create a peak of humidity, followed by a valley or dryer period as the device gives up its moisture. This cycle results in lost oils and sugars in your cigars—every time. This is an uncontrollable reality of all one-way humidifiers and the direct reason why cigars do not age properly when using refillable devices.

2. All refillable devices will develop mold and bacteria over time
Regardless of how clean the water is that’s used to fill any refillable device (even if it’s distilled water), mold and bacteria will develop within the device over time simply from repeated use – adversely influencing the cigars surrounding it. It’s not a matter of “if,” but a matter of “when.”

3. All refillable devices require maintenance, constant monitoring and continual adjustment
The fact is refillable devices require work, maintenance and constant monitoring to make sure your humidor isn’t getting too much moisture or not enough. With refillable systems, there really is no way whatsoever to keep the conditions inside your desktop humidor at a constant.
