How many Bóveda packets do I need for my humidor?
The correct number of Bóveda packets to use has nothing to do with how many cigars you will be storing in your humidor; instead, it has everything to do with the volume of air that needs to be maintained. For wood humidors, you should use a minimum of two Bóveda packets, regardless of how small your humidor might be, and then add one packet for every 50 cigars your humidor can hold. For example if your humidor has a capacity of 100, you should use three Bóveda packets (two for the first 50-capacity and one for the second 50). Additionally, if your humidor was made in China, you may need an extra packet since most China-made humidors have absolutely no moisture barrier on the bottom side of the humidor—being almost paper thin. You can easily tell by picking up your humidor and gently tapping on the bottom. If it’s solid like the rest of the humidor, then three packets will do. If it’s paper-like thin, then add an extra Bóveda packet.

Do I need to activate the Bóveda packets?
No. Bóveda packets are ready to use when you receive them. All you need to do is take each Bóveda packet out of the clear over-wrap and simply place them inside your desktop humidor and you’re done. That's right, there’s absolutely no work or effort required on your part. By using Bóveda, you don’t have to adjust any valves or try to figure out if you’ve put in too much or not enough water, and you never have to fill or refill your device with water again—ever.

What does the name Bóveda mean?
In naming Bóveda, we wanted the brand name to reflect the essence of storing and aging cigars. The name Bóveda is a Spanish word that means vault. When you use Bóveda inside your desktop humidor, you are literally creating a sophisticated cigar aging vault for your own personal use. The product is as effective as the most elaborate commercial systems used by the top cigar makers in the world. Bóveda simply gives cigar smokers the ability to properly store and age their own private cigar collection. Prior to the introduction Humidipak’s two-way humidity control, this has never been possible for consumers. Prior to Bóveda, this has never been possible inside desktop humidors. Bóveda is a registered trademark of Humidipak, Inc.

What are the Bóveda packets made of?
Bóveda is completely natural consisting of pure water and natural salt thickened with an odorless, tasteless food-grade gum. This saturated solution is contained within a water-vapor permeable reverse osmosis membrane. The membrane let’s nothing through except purified water-vapor. As a matter of fact, no other product on the market can match the purity of Bóveda, even if those products are filled with distilled water.

Since Bóveda utilizes a salt solution, will my cigars have any taste of salt?
No. Bóveda’s reverse osmosis membrane provides the cleanest, most purified water-vapor available. Period. Bóveda’s built-in reverse osmosis membrane provides the same type of hyperfiltration that’s used in water purification systems by inhibiting the passage of ions (such as salt) or other impurities, ensuring that only pure, clean water-vapor passes through the membrane, while rejecting everything else. No refillable-type humidification product can come close to the purity emitted by Bóveda.

What is reverse osmosis?
Reverse osmosis, also known as hyperfiltration, is the finest filtration known. This process allows the removal of particles as small as ions from a solution – and is capable of rejecting bacteria, salts, sugars, proteins, particles, dyes, and other constituents that commonly emit from the refillable-style humidification products. Reverse osmosis is used to purify water and remove salts and other impurities. The most common use for reverse osmosis is in purifying water. It is used to produce water that meets the most demanding specifications that are currently in place. Reverse osmosis uses a membrane that is semi-permeable, allowing the fluid or the water-vapor that is being purified to pass through it, while rejecting everything else.

Will my humidor hold the humidity to the same percentage level that’s printed on the Bóveda packet?
In a standard wood humidor, Bóveda will maintain your humidor at 2 to 4 points lower than the percentage printed on the front of the packet, depending on the humidor and ambient climate. Most importantly, the resultant humidity will be constant and free of any cycles or damaging fluctuations in humidity. For example, if using the Bóveda 72% packet in a dry climate, most humidors will hold the RH at a constant 69%; the Bóveda 69% packet will hold your humidor at 66%, etc. On the other hand, in a sealed container, such as Tupperware or in a high barrier plastic case or bag, the resultant humidity level will be exact, plus or minus 3/10ths of point.

Is it possible to over-humidify cigars?
When using Bóveda, it's impossible to over-humidify your cigars. If using traditional methods, then yes, you can easily over-humidify your cigars. The amount of moisture in your cigars plays a major roll in your ability to taste and experience some of the subtle nuances in the tobacco’s natural oils and sugars. A cigar that’s too moist is like watered down coffee. And although some people drink watered down coffee, it’s not the way the experts in the field recommend drinking it. Too much water dilutes the flavor and character of the coffee’s natural oils. Single malt scotch is the same way. Too much water added to the scotch will rob the drinker of experiencing the wonderful flavor and character within the spirit. Too much moisture in the cigar can literally alter the intended flavor of the blend just like adding water to wine would alter the flavor of wine. Too much moisture does several other things as well: It gives your cigars a spongy feel in your mouth; it dilutes t

What does two-way humidity control mean?
Two-way humidity control literally responds to the ambient climate by adding or absorbing water-vapor, as needed, to maintain a specific, pre-determined level of relative humidity. This 2-way control eliminates all the peaks and valleys that one-way humidifiers inherently cause.

Will Bóveda work in any type and style of humidor?
Yes. Although for practical purposes, we recommend Bóveda for humidors with a maximum cigar-capacity of 300. For non-wood humidors, such as Tupperware containers, coolers and other sealed containers, there really is no limit. Bóveda will last two months in most wood humidors and up to twelve months in a sealed container, such as Tupperware, Armored Humidor, and the like.

What RH level should I choose?
Choosing the correct Bóveda RH level depends on two factors—(1) the effectiveness of your humidor, and (2) your own personal taste. If you smoke cigars from different countries of origin, our recommendation is to maintain your humidor at 68 to 69%, as this will be a very good level for all types of cigars and blends. Therefore, in order to compensate for the rate of moisture loss that occurs in wood humidors, you will need to choose the Bóveda 72% just to maintain the desired level of 68 to 69%. In non-wood humidors, on the other hand, such as hard plastic or Tupperware, the Bóveda packets will maintain the RH at exactly the level stated on the front of each packet.

Are there any other two-way humidity control products on the market?
No, at least not commercially available. The only two-way humidity control you’ll find would be in the laboratory of a major food company or the like, where this same scientific principal has been well-known for over 100 years and is still widely used today as the only accurate way to create chambers of perfect and stable humidity. Humidipak has taken this well-known principal and has patented the portable application of it. Humidipak’s two-way humidity control is protected by several patents.

Can I lay the Bóveda packets directly on top of my cigars?
Yes. Unlike all refillable humidifiers, Bóveda can be placed directly in contact with your cigars without any risk to them whatsoever. And since Bóveda emits the cleanest, most purified water-vapor available, and since they will only emit the perfect amount of water-vapor—not too much and not too little—the cigars that are in direct contact will never get over-humidified.
