What does it mean to season a humidor?
Seasoning simply refers to the process of raising the moisture level in the wood equal to the humidity level you’ll be storing your cigars at. And to season a humidor properly the process must be gradual so the moisture in the wood is evenly distributed throughout and also so that the wood doesn’t acquire mold, a mustiness smell, or warp – as happens when following traditional seasoning methods of spraying, sponging or wiping the box down with water.

Why is seasoning a humidor so important?
Before placing any cigars in your humidor, the wood and cigars must be in moisture-equilibrium, otherwise they will steal moisture from each other until the two are in balance – causing your cigars to lose some of their natural oils and sugars in the process. Therefore, never place your cigars in your humidor until the humidor is properly seasoned. This is an essential step and it shouldn’t be taken lightly – neglecting it can ruin good cigars. If you’re unsure if the moisture in your box is equilibrated, then it’s a good idea to season it anyway just to make sure. The reward of properly seasoning your humidor using two-way humidity control – and then maintaining it with two-way humidity control – is that you’ll be able to enjoy delicious smokes right out of your own private cigar aging vault.

What RH level are the Bóveda Seasoning Packets?
Bóveda Seasoning Packets have a relative humidity of 84%, which is the perfect level for seasoning because it ensures that the humidor doesn't get "shocked" with too much moisture, as can happen when using traditional methods. In addition, the Bóveda Seasoning Packets provide plenty of moisutre for the wood at a rate in which the wood can abosrob the moisture. What does the name Bóveda mean?
In naming Bóveda, we wanted the brand name to reflect the essence of storing and aging cigars. The name Bóveda is a Spanish word that means vault. When you use Bóveda inside your desktop humidor, you are literally creating a sophisticated cigar aging vault for your own personal use. The product is as effective as the most elaborate commercial systems used by the top cigar makers in the world. Bóveda simply gives cigar smokers the ability to properly store and age their own private cigar collection. Prior to the introduction Humidipak’s two-way humidity control, this has never been possible for consumers. Prior to Bóveda, this has never been possible inside desktop humidors. Bóveda is a registered trademark of Humidipak, Inc.

What are the Bóveda packets made of?
Bóveda is completely natural consisting of pure water and natural salt thickened with an odorless, tasteless food-grade gum. This saturated solution is contained within a water-vapor permeable reverse osmosis membrane. The membrane let’s nothing through except purified water-vapor. As a matter of fact, no other product on the market can match the purity of Bóveda, even if those products are filled with distilled water.

What is reverse osmosis?
Reverse osmosis, also known as hyperfiltration, is the finest filtration known. This process allows the removal of particles as small as ions from a solution – and is capable of rejecting bacteria, salts, sugars, proteins, particles, dyes, and other constituents that commonly emit from the refillable-style humidification products. Reverse osmosis is used to purify water and remove salts and other impurities. The most common use for reverse osmosis is in purifying water. It is used to produce water that meets the most demanding specifications that are currently in place. Reverse osmosis uses a membrane that is semi-permeable, allowing the fluid or the water-vapor that is being purified to pass through it, while rejecting everything else.

Do I need to activate the Bóveda packets?
No. Bóveda packets are ready to use when you receive them. All you need to do is take each Bóveda packet out of the clear over-wrap and simply place them inside your desktop humidor and you’re done. That's right, there’s absolutely no work or effort required on your part. By using Bóveda, you don’t have to adjust any valves or try to figure out if you’ve put in too much or not enough water, and you never have to fill or refill your device with water again—ever.

How many Bóveda packets do I need for my humidor?
The correct number of Bóveda packets to use has nothing to do with how many cigars you will be storing in your humidor; instead, it has everything to do with the volume of air that needs to be maintained. For wood humidors, you should use a minimum of two Bóveda packets, regardless of how small your humidor might be, and then add one packet for every 50 cigars your humidor can hold. For example if your humidor has a capacity of 100, you should use three Bóveda packets (two for the first 50-capacity and one for the second 50). Additionally, if your humidor was made in China, you may need an extra packet since most China-made humidors have absolutely no moisture barrier on the bottom side of the humidor—being almost paper thin. You can easily tell by picking up your humidor and gently tapping on the bottom. If it’s solid like the rest of the humidor, then three packets will do. If it’s paper-like thin, then add an extra Bóveda packet.

Are there any other two-way humidity control products on the market?
No, at least not commercially available. The only two-way humidity control you’ll find would be in the laboratory of a major food company or the like, where this same scientific principal has been well-known for over 100 years and is still widely used today as the only accurate way to create chambers of perfect and stable humidity. Humidipak has taken this well-known principal and has patented the portable application of it. Humidipak’s two-way humidity control is protected by several patents.
